"The torn papers are a continuation of the large canvases and present the same theme in a different way. The difference lies in that they are first of all naturalistic drawings that I gradually modified, transformed with the introduction of different elements including those of the cartoon. I started them in 2014 and only completed them this year. So there are six years of work and rework on each drawing.
Matisse's cut-outs were a real focus for reflection because I wanted to get out of the obligation of composition by the format. So I started to tear up the papers and then reconstruct them, so that the format corresponds to the subject. It is therefore not the format that defines the subject but the reverse.
