"Beyond Camp, the work of Etienne Marc first questions the notion of beauty and its link with nostalgia. His current research oscillates between the Natural and the Cultural, delving both into the work of Karl Blossfeldt and his inventory of natural floral shapes, human desire as well as its rubbish, and into art deco/baroque references. Etienne Marc's work on the chandelier, Strelitzia, vividly evokes this confrontation. He creates a correlation with the organic shapes of the plant Bird of paradise's (strelitzia), to our need to theatricalize the domestic space. A dramatic and celestial decors that symbolizes our way of living in all its exuberance."
