"My practice has always been accumulative both methodically and conceptually, the construction of unreal fictive worlds and narratives has been a constant in my practice. The accumulation previously took the form of dozens of sources informing each work, stacking, merging and housing found matter into a single work. The work is now somewhat less dependant on external visual sources and leans more on literature, memory and imagined happenings. I have been delving into ancient mythologies and considering how to abstract certain characters or situations and arrive at an image which is deeply entrenched in the feeling of the relayed narrative, whilst simultaneously being totally isolated and alien from the sources. Grey Baboon is a consideration of God, the historical representation of Gods and Goddesses, through mythological and religious texts and images. I am interested in the over laps and retelling of certain narratives and wading through the similarities. The nature of this consideration is really time, and how stories have shaped our vision for at least twenty two thousand years, how we grow with these stories and how they resurface in every aspect of our contemporary existence."- Mark Connolly
