"A lamp made specifically for the opening of Everyday Gallery. It aims to build a bridge between “functional” art and (ART?). Evidently, an artist's practice of making functional objects. For me this is also a bridge between art and spectator because we have more of an affinity with a lamp, chair, table... than with a sculpture, painting... by this recognizable meaning, spectators are much more likely to touch / use this work, therefore the sacredness that rests on an art object like a stigma disappears. Melanocetus johnsonii is the name of a fish in the order of the anglerfish." - Tom Volkaert, 2019
